Associate Director of Corporate Community Relations - 17-10-01

Description:

The Associate Director of Corporate Community Relations works under the supervision of the Vice President of Corporate Community Relations and assists in conceptualizing, developing and facilitating the implementation of projects related to community relations and ICL becoming a valued neighbor in the communities it serves. This position requires close coordination and communication with managers and clinicians throughout the Agency. In addition, this person is required to work successfully with representatives from various communities, organizations, and neighborhoods with respect to the diverse populations and cultures, with the goal of providing outreach and coordination of community organizing initiatives as well as heightening the agency’s profile in the community.

Duties:

1. Work in partnership with community-based providers and clinical staff to develop and implement that promotes mental health and access to mental health treatment in designated communities. This position facilitates alignment of community mission goals across teams at the organizational level. This include but is not limited to:

•Developing necessary resources in targeted communities.
•Developing a mental health agenda and advocating for the needs of consumers.
•Actively participating in community based coalitions with health related goals.

2. Develop and promote community relations opportunities. The Associate Director recruits and engages staff and affiliates in community events and/or community health fairs. This includes but is not limited to:

• Community Relations Notebook
• Community Advisory Board
• Consumer Advisory Council
• Family Day Celebrations


3. Represent the Agency at community meetings. This position serves as a collateral representative of the Agency, maintaining and developing relationships with key external contacts and the community at large.

4. Work with health centers, community-based organizations, and community coalitions to develop activities, events, and new initiatives that promote community relations objectives.


ADDITIONAL DUTIES

5.Community Organizing
The Associate Director for Corporate Community Relations will work with the Marketing and Corporate Community Relations Committee, other Corporate Community Relations staff and program staff to develop community relations plans and promote new and on-going initiatives in their areas. This position is recognized as an organization-wide resource that is responsible for providing tools, guidance, and opportunities for staff to realize their full potential in the community. Additional tasks will include but not be limited to:


•Facilitate the integration of the program staff and consumers in ICL’s host communities.

•Work with local community associations, elected officials and community religious organizations to establish and/or enhance Community Advisory Boards in communities where ICL’s programs are located.

•Interface Community Advisory Boards with program staff to facilitate their involvement in local community affairs addressing issues like homelessness, mental illness, and chemical dependency.

•Work with Community Advisory Board members to arrange for the Program Director’s membership in civic associations and block associations.

•Work with Community Advisory Boards, ICL consumers and the Program Director to facilitate the participation of consumers in local community activities such as block parties, clean-ups, beautification and holiday celebrations, etc.

•Attend Community Advisory Board meetings.

6.Performs other job related duties that may be assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in social work, public administration or other relevant field. Minimum of three years experience in community work or event planning or other closely related experience. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills, including proofreading skills. Excellent Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Publisher and Access and other software used for print communication. Ability to work with individuals with mental and developmental disabilities.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

•Ability to work with all stakeholders in a professional and respectful manner, and with due understanding of and consideration for cultural differences.
•Knowledge of computer database management and graphic design as well as good organizational skills
•Ability to complete intricate and technical assignments accurately and timely
• Ability to identify and analyze the complexities of the given assignment; and to recognize role in achieving goals and meeting deadlines on behalf of the Corporate Community Relations Department
•Excellent communications skills.
•Strong leadership qualities.
•Ability to effectively represent ICL in its work with diverse communities.
•Ability to work effectively and independently with various levels of clinical and administrative managers within the Agency and with community leaders and representatives.
•Ability to be ethical- to understand and adhere to internal and external laws, rules, and policies
•Ability to function as an effective team member, including performing share of work, cooperating with coworkers, and securing cooperation, and maintaining professional relationships and boundaries with co-workers, supervisors and consumers.
