Network Specialist (Brevard, NC)

Description:

Responsible for implementation, security and network management of core telephony and data networks.  Ensures telco grade service uptimes of customer facing services.  Support of Voice and TDM services for Nortel DMS-100 and DLC nodes.    

Reports to Network Switching Supervisor.

Duties:

Monitoring and testing network performance and network problem determination using EMS/NMS systems, PMs, SNMP and logs.

Maintaining Ethernet/SONET transport systems and BBDLC equipment.  Upgrading core routers/switches as well as transport and DLC nodes.

OS updates, software installation and system administration of Operations' NMS servers.

Supports DMS-100, Meridian and voicemail platforms as well multiple product lines used in the Central Office environment from Nortel, Cisco, Adtran, Tellabs, Fujitsu, Actellis and ADC.

Provide technical leadership for troubleshooting issues from the edge through the core.  Communicates effectively with team and vendor while isolating and solving issues.

Assists Engineering with evaluation of new products and network design.

Assists Supervisor and team with other work assignments.

Follow all safety, security and operational procedures.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma required. College Degree preferred.

Must have at least 7 years experience in a Telecom/Network Operations environment.

Proficiencies with Layer 1, Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols such as xDSL, SONET, Ethernet, ATM, PPP, IP, OSPF and BGP are required. 

Certifications in related technologies a plus.

Excellent written and oral communication, computer, and organizational skills.
