| The incumbent in this position will be a community advocate and responsible for acting as a liaison between the residents, the City staff, law enforcement and other government agencies as well as various community groups. This position will be involved in a variety of projects and tasks including but not limited to community organizing and outreach, planning and conducting community building events, conducting field surveys of the conditions in targeted neighborhoods, designing outreach efforts to residential property owners and residents, business and commercial property owner organizing, and foreclosure prevention efforts, coordinating with non-profit and government agencies to deliver services in Wellington. |
Duties: |
· Maintain working relationships with residents by encouraging and assisting residents in the development and organization of neighborhood associations and watch groups, in community outreach and assist in the promotion of public safety and education programs.
· Organize neighborhood based projects and programs to develop and improve the physical and social fabric of targeted neighborhoods by analyzing neighborhood conditions, demographics and housing markets, improving neighborhood physical infrastructure and social and safety conditions.
· Aggressively promote the message that crime will be met with strict enforcement and swift, certain punishment.
· Significantly reduce violence and criminal activity in transitional neighborhoods.
· Act as a liaison between the community, local law enforcement and various community groups.
· Link youth to appropriate services within the community.
· Plan and organize neighborhood advocacy groups.
· Organize and monitor data collection and crime-related activity.
· Communicate regularly with employees and management regarding the status of current project initiative, obtaining guidance and approval as needed to advance initiatives.
· Work directly with neighborhood groups, city departments and law enforcement in the development of strategic improvement plan for the neighborhoods.
· Coordinate public relations activities and plans, coordinates, and directs community forums and meetings.
· Conduct research to obtain/identify information on trends and models, researches programs and compiles various statistical, demographic and administrative data reports and recommendations.
· Provide technical assistance to homeowners, renters, and multi-family tenants, conducting neighborhood outreach and community organizing, and identifying and acquiring public and private resources and services to help improve neighborhood conditions. |
Qualifications: |
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. Three (3) to five (5) years of professional or volunteer experience in community organizing, outreach programs, or human service program coordination required. High School diploma required. Some formal training, certificates or college coursework in social services or community organizing preferred. Must have extensive knowledge of community resources and prior experience working in a community based setting; familiarity with the Palm Beach County social services and non-profit system and willingness to work in the community and other unstructured environments. Candidates should possess strong verbal and written communication skills in addition to public speaking. Experience in Microsoft Office computer applications required. Possession of a valid FL driver’s license required. Flexible schedule required to include evenings and weekends.
