GL Garrad Hassan North America is looking to recruit a dynamic and experienced Project Manager, Environmental and Permitting Services for the Environmental Permitting (EP) Group responsible for undertaking and managing environmental studies in GL Garrad Hassan North America and coordinating various environmental assessment studies and permit/approval requests for utility-scale wind energy projects and other renewables.

This position is based in GL Garrad Hassan North America’s Ottawa office, with the willingness and availability to travel up to 20% of the time for periods of less than a week at a time.

Duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Coordinate the overall execution of mandates with an end-to-end authority and by making optimal use of our multidisciplinary technical & scientific resources (internal and external) working in a matrix structure;
•Preparing environmental impact assessment reports for wind energy projects and other renewables;
•Coordinating the work of available resources and external experts in charge of specialized aspects of environmental impact studies;
•Organizing consulting activities with different groups and local communities in order to ensure continuous communication;
•Presenting and defending the results of the environmental impact study before government authorities and other concerned bodies;
•Overseeing acquisition of permits and authorizations required by municipalities, federal and/or provincial authorities;
•Proposing accompanying strategies to mitigate environmental impacts of wind energy projects through both the evaluation process and the development stage;
•Ensuring project follow-up and answering questions from intervening parties in environmental assessment process;
•Establish and maintain sustainable relationships and good communication with clients, vendors, sub-contractors and other project stakeholders;
•Prepare custom-made proposals fit to each client/project and engage proactively in business development via repeat business;
•Undertake and/or supervise specialized studies in his/her field.

Environmental managers in the EP team work closely with the engineering team to jointly develop sustainable projects for a wide range of private developers.

Qualifications:

TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
•Knowledge of environmental assessment principles and regulatory frameworks at the federal state and local levels;
•Thorough understanding of permitting processes;
•Project management

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
•Masters degree in a relevant field;
•Experience in the wind or renewable energy industry; and/or experience in regulatory affairs;
•B.Sc. in a relevant field such as biology, land planning, environmental sciences, environmental engineering; and
•2 years of experience as a project manager.
