Duties:

Position Objective

Establishes and maintains programs that optimize business processes using operational excellence, lean manufacturing, six sigma, and other tools.

Essential Functions

Participate in the continuous development of programs and services, including training materials, and tools, to create and drive lasting change within the organization. Ensure standardized processes retain rigor and compliance over time.

Support the identification and sharing of best practices and projects across Life Technologies. Quantify project savings opportunities and document results.

Assist in developing project success criteria and metrics. Communicate progress, document results, and maintain project databases.

Nature and Scope

Participates with other team members to implement process improvement opportunities and cost reduction projects based on optimizing manufacturing core competencies and standard best practices. Participates in 5S and Kaizen activities, trouble-shooting, and creating documentation. Works on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.

Actively contributes to the data collection, trend analysis, investigation and improvements to processes, products and systems. Trains other staff on lean manufacturing tools and methodologies. May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

Requires a Bachelors/Masters degree in industrial engineering, chemical engineering, process engineering, or related discipline.

Experience:

Minimum of 3 to 5 years related experience in industrial, chemical, process engineering or related discipline and demonstrated working knowledge of lean manufacturing tools and methodologies and project management principles. Areas of expertise may include any or all of the following areas: strong statistical, analytical, quantitative, and problem solving skills; experience implementing continuous improvement programs; proficiency in six sigma tools and methodology; development and implementation of high impact metric programs. In addition, strong customer relationship experience, communication, presentation and training skills, experience with word processing, and spread sheet and database programs are essential.

Contacts:

Has contact with all internal operations and other site employees. Will also have interactions with colleagues at other Life Technology sites involved with Operational Excellence. Needs to interact effectively with others throughout the organization in both project leader and/or team member roles.

Working Conditions:

Works in a team based office environment with some laboratory involvement. Close attention to detail required. Is required to lift up to 20 lbs. May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time while performing duties. Must be able to work safely with chemicals and hazardous materials. Must be able to work outside of regular work hours and be available for occassional travel.
