Description: | | Reviews delinquent loan accounts, negative balances, monitors returned items, initiates appropriate action and maintains accurate records to assist members. | Duties: | • Recommends and implements collection procedures on delinquent accounts verbally or in writing to ensure payment or suitable arrangements.
• Contacts members with delinquent or problem loans by phone, mail or in person and secures payment or negotiates arrangements for repayment.
• Keeps accurate records of all collection activities for future reference.
• Recommends repayment arrangements on delinquent accounts that cannot be brought current.
• Prepares and processes approved extensions following credit union policies and guidelines on designated accounts as necessary.
• Coordinates the liquidation of repossessed collateral through authorized agencies.
• Consults with the Loss Prevention Manager in regard to the closure of lines of credit or over limit accounts, and sends appropriate documents to the member.
• Evaluates vehicle loan status and uses the collection policy to determine if repossession is warranted.
• Reviews bankruptcy cases and coordinates with Loss Prevention Manager on appropriate actions to be taken.
• Monitors and reports suspected money laundering, structuring, or other suspicious activity by completing the Internal Report of Suspicious Activity form.
OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Reviews and explains all aspects of member's accounts including loan documents, loan terms, payment due dates, interest rates and other related account questions.
• Advises and counsels members on wise use of credit and its ramifications.
• Provides members with basic information on financial and budget counseling. Directs members to appropriate agency for further help as necessary.
• Directs members to appropriate agencies for further help as necessary.
• Authorizes financial specialists to apply payments to delinquent loans.
• Reviews reports and member account balances daily. Issues the necessary letters and contacts members by mail or by phone to make satisfactory arrangements.
• Handles collection efforts on return deposit items and forwards any possible fraudulent items to a Loss prevention Professional II or higher for review.
• Uses available tools to include signature cards, loan files, Accurint and other means to locate and contact members.
• Consistently demonstrates a positive attitude toward our members and other employees, in compliance with FCFCU’s Service Standards.
• Performs teller transactions and functions as required.
• Performs other duties as required and needed.
| Qualifications: | KNOWLEDGE:
• Requires a comprehensive knowledge of and the ability to apply knowledge of accepted collection principles for Federal Chartered Credit Unions, credit union operations, policies and procedures.
• Requires a thorough knowledge of the FOCUS XP data processing system and software, the Loan Collection feature.
• Requires basic knowledge in the collection and filing of reports and evidence to law enforcement.
• Requires a basic understanding of the criminal court processes.
• Requires a working knowledge of the following rules and regulations:
o The Credit Union Act
o Rules and Regulations of the Federal Reserve, particularly rules regarding access to and review of personal information in systems records
o Rule 8, Financial Privacy Act
o Equal Credit Opportunity Act
o Home Mortgage Disclosure
o Electronic Funds Transfer Act
o Collection of Checks and Other Items and Wire Transfer of Funds
o Truth in Lending
o Unfair or Deceptive Acts or Practices

• Requires at least six CUES University online training per year.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Ability to operate computer keyboard to perform member account transactions.
• Ability to read computer screen and printouts.
• Ability to identify problem areas and make independent decisions to resolve problems as they relate to standard operating procedures. Problems that arise out of normal daily operation are to be communicated to the Loss Prevention Manager.
• Ability to perform well under stressful situations.
• Ability to communicate with members and other employees verbally, in writing and on the phone.
• Ability to detect and trace errors and make necessary corrections.
• Ability to type 40 words per minute.
• Ability to recognize loan documents required for each available loan type.
• Ability to recognize and follow credit union structure, goals and chain of command.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instruction.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High school diploma or its equivalent.
• Minimum six months experience in collection or lending field, or related financial experience.
