Description: | The trainer instructs clients with severe/profound disabilities, who are also medically fragile, in self-care, leisure and social activities, prevocational and vocational skills, and mobility. The trainer works in both integrated settings and on the agency site with clients. CNA would be preferred, but not required.
This position is 30 hours per week, 9am to 3pm, Monday-Friday. | Duties: | A. Behavior Management and Skill Training (70% E)
1. Participate in set up and follow through of skill training and behavior programs.
2. Instruct and assist clients in self-care skills to maximize level of independence.
3. Train clients to be mobile within the building and in the community, including riding LTD. Assist clients to access leisure, social and work opportunities.
4. Assist in developing strategies to prevent aggressive incidents, respond to the incidents in a non-punitive manner, and reintegrate the client into the program or social setting after the incident.
5. Collect data, and maintain documentation on behavior incidents and skill training.
B. Safety (20% E)
1. Responsible for safety and welfare of yourself and clients in your supervision.
2. Ensure clients are taught safety skills at PBC and in community environments.
3. Ensure safety requirements are practiced as outlined in the safety manual.
4. Ensure safety requirements are practiced. Understanding of current medical needs of clients; i.e., seizures, fire safety, knowledge of correct lifting procedures when dealing with individuals with physical disabilities, wheelchair safety, administering medication and keeping accurate records.
C. Meetings (10% E)
1. Attend outside seminars and trainings if appropriate.
2. Attend all staff meetings, periodic staff in-service training, and all PBC quarterlies.
3. Meet with supervisor weekly, or as required.
| Qualifications: | High School Diploma is preferred.
One year experience working with people with disabilities preferred.
CNA helpful, not required. |
