Under the direction of the Activity Director, the Activity Aide assists in carrying out a planned activity program for residents. Maintains records, transports residents to and from activities. Performs varied clerical and department maintenance functions.

Duties: |
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
A. Job Knowledge and Role Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrates knowledge of age specific developmental factors specific to adult and geriatric residents (i.e. physical, cognitive, and socialization factors) in directing the overall operation of the facility’s delivery of care.
2. Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and techniques necessary to plan activities for residents with the following needs: therapeutic, neuro & dementia, dialysis, IV therapy, and infectious diseases if applicable.
3. Attends all mandatory in-services that are required by employee’s anniversary date.
4. Acts appropriately under the direction of the Activity Director acts as an active member of the interdisciplinary team.
5. Demonstrates ability to adjust to changes in unit/shift assignments to meet resident and family needs.
6. Communicates and observes the Compliance Program effectively and complies with the Code of Conduct when performing work functions.
7. Notifies the Activity Director of supplies needed for the operation of the activities programs.
8. Notifies the Activity Director of needed equipment repairs.
9. Encourages the use of volunteers and assists in the supervision of volunteers during programs and parties.
10. Ensures that all programs are completed timely per the Activity Schedule.
11. Responsible to invite all residents to Activity Program as appropriate and as determined in the Care Plan.
12. Maintains attendance records for resident activities on a daily basis.
13. Assists Activity Director with the seasonal décor of the facility.
14. Assists in transporting residents to and from activities.
15. Maintains and delivers department timesheets to the Activity Director on Friday each week.
16. Maintains an up-to-date list of residents’ birth dates.
17. Performs light housekeeping tasks, such as clean-up following parties and programs. Maintains a clean office and desk.
B. Role Responsibilities – Interpersonal Skills:
1. Is aware of, and adheres to, Resident’s Bill of Rights and Confidentiality of Resident Information.
2. Interacts with residents, family members, co-workers, clinical and ancillary staff in a non-judgmental, supportive, and calm manner.
3. Addresses family satisfaction issues immediately and assists in resolving the matter in a professional manner.
4. Is aware of the Resident Abuse Reporting Law.
5. Participates as assigned in the orientation of new staff and demonstrates a positive, helpful, and enthusiastic attitude.
C. Role Responsibilities – Safety:
1. Demonstrates ability to locate emergency equipment (i.e. fire extinguisher).
2. Understands and demonstrates knowledge of role in Fire and Disaster drills.
3. Demonstrates ability to identify and respond appropriately to potential behavioral outbursts.
4. Uses facility equipment safely.
5. Recognizes, removes, and/or reports potential hazards.
D. Role Responsibilities – Infection Control:
1. Demonstrates proper hand-washing techniques.
2. Maintains proper food-handling techniques and ensures glove usage, when necessary.
3. Properly disposes of waste.
4. Understands and maintains activity/kitchen sanitation procedures.
E. Resident Care Responsibilities – Resident Dignity:
1. Ensures understanding of and compliance with all rules regarding residents’ rights.
2. Addresses residents in a respectful manner.
3. Discusses confidential resident information in appropriate areas only.

Qualifications: |
Physical Requirements:
“Occasionally” equals approximately 1% to 33% of the workday, “Frequently” equals approximately 34% to 66% of the workday, and “Continuously” equals approximately 67% to 100% of the workday (Typical full-time workday is 8.0 hours).

SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must possess a high school diploma
2. Must have a valid driver’s license.
3. Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and /or holidays.
4. Able to work independently as well as a member of a team.
5. Maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
6. Meets health assessment requirements, including two stage Mantoux skin test.
7. Must be capable of performing the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
8. Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing and possess sufficient communication skills to perform the tasks required.
