Description: | Tara Cares, a long-term care administrative support company, is currently seeking a Regional Medical Records Consultant for supported facilities in Mississippi and Louisiana.
Position Summary:
Under immediate direction of Senior Vice President of Clinical Services, provides guidance and education in maintenance and regulatory compliance of the medical record department in accordance with established policies and procedures and state and federal regulations
| Duties: | 1. Acts as a consultant to facility medical record staff.
2. Works with facility Medical Record Coordinators and other staff to coordinate training, education and monitoring of activities.
3. Makes regular facility visits as assigned or requested for evaluation, training and support, which may require extensive travel.
4. Works with assigned facility and provides feedback regarding the organization and direction of the medical record department by:
a. Monitoring the resident charts to ensure records are complete and in proper active / discharge order.
b. Monitoring the medical record system for filing, retention and destruction of overflow / thinned records.
c. Monitoring security of medical records by assuring physical protection is in place to prevent loss, destruction and unauthorized use of both manual and electronic records.
d. Monitoring concurrent and discharge audit process to ensure medical records are complete and correct and results are tabulated and reviewed at appropriate committee.
5. Assists in providing orientation to employees regarding medical record organization, content, record completion, confidentiality and security, documentation standards and error correction procedures.
6. May monitor processing of record requests for information to include chart review for completeness prior to release.
7. Will participate in meetings and committees such as Quality Assurance / Quality Improvement / Policy and Procedure, etc. as needed.
8. Keeps current and is knowledgeable regarding updated regulations, directives and policy and procedures in order to accurately relay and interpret the information in the field.
9. Supports and assists in carrying out facility compliance initiatives as assigned by the Senior Vice President of Clinical Services.
10. Demonstrates knowledge of and complies with the Code of Conduct and Compliance Program when performing work functions.
| Qualifications: | 1. RHIA / RHIT preferred, however, equivalent or like training such as medical assistant, medical records secretary could be considered.
2. Successfully completes facility conducted orientation, mandatory training and in-service programs.
3. Meets health assessment requirements, including Mantoux skin test.
4. Must be capable of performing the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, this includes extensive travel.
5. Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing and possess sufficient communication skills to perform the tasks required.
