Description: | Principal Area of Responsibility:
This position will be responsible for developing revolutionary, new carbon based materials to meet demanding applications. New formulations and processing techniques will be studied to maximize material properties and product performance. The scientist will use proven analytical techniques to clarify material properties in a structured, well thought-out way. The individual is expected to be a “hands on” person willing to run tests, collect data and communicate results to team members. This person should be an “idea” person, who likes a challenge and regularly thinks outside the box to solve difficult problems. The successful candidate should be a proven performer with demonstrated results in developing innovative materials. Strong analytical skills are a must.
| Duties: | Specific Duties:
•Develop specialized revolutionary materials that can be sold at an acceptable price to the market.
•Work closely with raw material suppliers and other development engineers to develop materials that exceed customer expectations.
•Work closely with Sales and Application Engineering to understand customer needs.
•Work closely with safety director and EPA to ensure all products developed meet safety requirements.
•Write work instructions for technicians and implement process controls to insure consistent, reliable parts are produced.
•Develop manufacturing specifications and tolerances for each process step.
•Develop quality plan to ensure process meets all quality objectives.
•Train technicians to manufacture product per customer specifications.
| Qualifications: | Position Requirements:
•Minimum of 5 years experience in Material Development. Experience with friction materials, carbon fibers, or high temperature furnaces a plus.
•Strong analytical and communication skills and decision making ability.
•Hands on position that requires advanced problem solving ability and analytical thinking.
•Positive thinker, team player, and “never say die attitude” is an absolute must.
•Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science. Master’s degree or PhD preferred.
•Working knowledge of lab equipment including SEM, DSC, TGA, Particle size analyzer, and Thermal Conductivity.
•Experienced using Six Sigma, SPC, 5S, and Microsoft Office.
