Description: |
Purpose
To support the Educational Opportunities for Children & Families, in realizing a common mission
by planning and implementing a relationship-based, child-directed, and individualized early
childhood experience for infants/toddlers enrolled in Early Head Start. |
Duties: |
Key Performance Area: Work Habits and Practices
1. Report to work on a regular basis, as scheduled. Must be willing to work flexible hours and
days, including evenings and weekends. Salaried exempt employees must work until their
essential job functions are completed, which may require working beyond their regularly
scheduled days and hours.

Key Performance Area: Teacher Services
1. Provide a classroom environment and curriculum that builds and strengthens the security,
trust, positive self-concepts and individual strengths of each child.
2. Provide warm, caring, nurturing, positive and supportive responses to all children.
3. Provide positive guidance and discipline to support the social and emotional development of
each toddler.
4. Encourage toddlers to develop, by modeling positive attitudes towards a variety of ethnic,
racial and social groups.
5. Implement developmentally appropriate best practices, principles and performance
standards in a comprehensive Early Head Start classroom environment.
6. Plan and implement individualized daily routines and curriculum for infants and toddlers in
the classroom; participate in the development and implementation of individualized goals for
each child.
7. Demonstrate familiarity with current and developmentally appropriate best practices for
infants/toddlers.
8. Conduct developmental screenings, observations and recording of children’s behavior.
9. Participate in the identification and referral process of special needs children.
10. Provide orientation to parents on classroom procedures and policies.
11. Establish and maintain a safe and healthy infant/toddler classroom environment; practice
established health and safety procedures in the infant/toddler environment consistently.
12. Assist in the development and implementation of routines and curriculum that promote good
health habits and integrate the health and nutrition components in the classroom.
13. Ensure daily cleaning of the facility.
14. Maintain an open, friendly and cooperative relationship with each child’s family; encouraging
their involvement in the program; promoting parent-child bonding and nurturing parent-child
relationships; work with parent’s to strengthen the family’s knowledge of early childhood
development including how infants and toddlers grow and learn.
15. Coordinate with parent/family volunteers in the classroom.
16. Participate in home visits as assigned.
17. Work as a team with the Lead Teacher and parents to plan, implement and attend monthly
parent center committee meetings.
18. Implement USDA nutrition program
19. Provide First Aide and/or CPR as may be needed
Key Performance Area: Communications
1. Maintain on-going records for each child. Record pertinent information in child’s file,
including but not limited to child observations, daily service plan, and verbal and written
communications with families and co-workers in regards to the child.
2. Assure continuous and timely flow of verbal and written information to and from other staff,
supervisor, program participants, and community.
3. Conduct all communication with staff, supervisor, program participants, and community in an
effective, respectful, timely, and supportive manner.
4. Prepare and provide timely and accurate written reports, memoranda and other statistical
and narrative information as required or requested.
5. Maintain organized and accessible record keeping and filing system.
6. Serve as advocate for EOCF and its families in the community.
7. Maintain confidentiality of program, staff and client information. |
Qualifications: |
2. REQUIREMENTS
Preferred Education and Experience
Bachelor degree in early childhood education or child development. One year consistent paid
experience with groups of children 0-36 months of age in a childcare program setting.
or
Bachelor degree not in ECE and a Child Development Associate (CDA) with an Infant/Toddler
credential or 22 semester credits in early childhood/early childhood related course work with a
minimum of 11 credits focused on groups of children 0-36 months. One year consistent paid
experience with groups of children 0-36 months of age in a childcare program setting.
Required Education and Experience
Associate degree in early childhood education or child development with an emphasis on
groups of children 0-36 months of age. Two years consistent paid experience with groups of
children 0-36 months of age in a childcare program setting.
or
Associate degree not in ECE and a Child Development Associate (CDA) with an Infant/Toddler
credential. Two years consistent paid experience with groups of children 0-36 months of age in
a childcare program setting.
Minimum Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent and a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for
Infant and Toddler Caregivers. Three years consistent paid experience working with groups of
children 0-36 months in a childcare program setting.
Certifications and Other Requirements
1. Valid First Aid and CPR (including infant) cards.
2. Valid Food Handlers Card.
3. Valid Washington or Oregon State driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance as
mandated by Washington State law.
4. Ready access to personnel, legally licensed motor vehicle.
5. Submit to a finger printing and criminal history background check.
6. Pass a pre-employment health screening indicating freedom from communicable diseases,
and an annual health check-up indicating freedom from communicable disease.
7. Commit to EOCF’s drug-free work place policy.
