Description: |
The primary purpose of the Greek Life Coordinator (GLC) is to intentionally interact with students to assess and meet student needs in the fraternity and sorority community on a private, residential, liberal arts campus of 2,400 students. This position is responsible for providing ongoing support and advising to Greek students, educational program development, and collaborating with other departments and divisions to provide comprehensive service to students. In that role, the Greek Life Coordinator (GLC) will provide positive support to all Greek students, leaders and members, including skill development in goal-setting, communication and administration. The GLC will be responsible for helping to communicate the purposes and values of Greek life among DePauw’s students, faculty and administration. The GLC will also help facilitate communication and understanding among students, alumni chapter advisers and the university. This position is responsible for supporting the mission of the university, the Division of Student Life and the goals of the department.
DePauw University has a strong Greek tradition with nearly seventy percent of students affiliating with a fraternity or sorority. DePauw’s Greek system is comprehensive and includes six NPC sororities, 11 NIC fraternities, four NPHC organizations, two MGC organizations and one local sorority. The Greek Life Coordinator (GLC) will participate as a member of the Campus Living & Community Development team, whose primary purpose, within the Division of Student Life, is to implement the guiding principles for how students live at DePauw University.

Duties: |
Responsibilities fall under the following areas: member development, leadership, communication, housing and facilities, and alumni/parent relations. Specific responsibilities might include:
• Directly advise 7-8 fraternities and sororities on all issues regarding the daily and long-term operations of their chapters. In this capacity the GLC will work with not only the chapter leader, but also the chapter membership.
• Work with chapter leadership to develop new member education programs and provide oversight during the new member education process. Assist students in developing educational programs for upper-class students.
• Serve as an important point of contact for alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff and neighbors for concerns involving the chapters for which they are responsible.
• Work to develop and facilitate Greek leadership workshops and seminars.
• Help to coordinate positive cultural and social opportunities in the community as well as work to reduce the use of alcohol and drugs within the Greek system.
• Serve in a consulting capacity in helping the chapter develop its annual goals, including those which are required under the Greek Standards Initiative (GSI).
• Assist with regular inspection of health and safety, maintenance of facility issues in Greek living areas.
• Maintain regular communication with faculty, particularly the faculty scholarship adviser. Work to communicate the positive academic contributions made by members of Greek organizations.
• Directly advise at least one council on all issues regarding the daily and long-term operations. In this capacity the GLC will work with not only the council leader, but also the executive board membership.
• Help chapters maintain web pages, communicate with alumni and parents, and apply for national awards and honors.
• Serve as a liaison to the chapters’ alumni and (inter)national organizations and attend regional Greek leadership conferences.
• Project responsibilities might include, but are not limited to: advising the student coordinators of Greek Week, coordinating Greek Awards, hosting officer roundtables and advising Order of Omega.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: |
• Membership in a national fraternity or sorority essential.
• Experience with Greek life in a university setting, as a consultant with a national organization, or as a Greek chapter adviser. Masters’ Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field helpful.
• Experience working with men’s fraternities highly desired.
• Demonstrated experience with and sensitivity to individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds and a commitment to a diverse community.
• Ability to advise students, individually and in groups.
• Ability to identify and develop leadership opportunities for all students.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational and conflict management skills.
• Excellent verbal, written and technological communication skills.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and evenings as needed.
