Assistant Director, Campus Living & Community Development

Description:

The Assistant Director position is a live-off appointment responsible for providing departmental leadership, participating in educational program and community development within Greek Life, collaborating with other departments and divisions to provide comprehensive service to students. This position is responsible for supporting the mission of the university, the Division of Student Life and the goals of the department.

Duties:


• Administer programs and initiatives aimed at achieving the vision and mission of Campus & Community Development including, but not limited to: chapter advisor training, the Greek Standards Initiative, Greek philanthropy and community service, house corporation communications, chapter officer and leader development, new member education programs, extension/expansion, peer education, intake/recruitment/rush, diversity initiatives and student participation in regional/national leadership programs or conferences.
• Organize large programmatic events for the Department, such as Tunnel of Oppression, Party House and Hazing Prevention Week, including preparation of event publicity.
• Directly advise or co-advise one Greek council and Order of Omega.
• Directly support Greek chapters on all issues regarding the daily and long-term operations of their chapters. In this capacity the AD will work with not only the chapter leadership, but also the chapter membership. The number of assigned Greek chapters will be determined as project assignments are determined.
• Oversee operational functions such as, but not limited to: maintaining the content of the departmental website, coordinating assessment and evaluation, coordinating diversity initiatives, scheduling fire drills as needed and conducting inspections of residential facilities, including Greek houses.
• Meeting with students regarding event registration and communicating weekly events as needed.
• Serve as a resource and advocate for students.
• Provide support to the Director of Campus Living & Community Development in creating and implementing the vision, assessment, and planning of the department.
• Provide crisis intervention and conflict mediation to students, share in on-call capacity and serve as a liaison for student concerns.
• Provide support for the on-call response by coordinating and assembling duty calendars and communicating the schedules to the appropriate offices.
• Assist in facilitation of residence hall opening and closing during break periods.
• Work within the University Community Standards system as a liaison to the department.
• Closely collaborate with Student Life offices and departments. Support campus-wide initiatives and serve on University committees.
• Complete other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:


• Bachelors’ Degree required. Masters’ Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field preferred.
• Membership in a national fraternity or sorority essential.
• Two or more years of experience with Greek life in a university setting, as a consultant with a national organization, on a Greek house corporation board or as a Greek chapter adviser.
• Ability to advise students, individually and in groups.
• Experience administering systems, programs and processes.
• Ability to identify and develop leadership opportunities for all students.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational and conflict management skills, ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal, written and technological communication skills.
• Excellent critical thinking, organizational skills, ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and attention to detail.
• Ease in working with all University constituents, including faculty, staff, alumni, students and their families.
• Experience in working with and sensitivity to individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds and a commitment to a diverse community.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with sensitive information.
• Ability to function within a team environment and collaborate with others.
• Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, databases and website management.
• Understanding of and/or experience in a residential, liberal arts college environment.
