Description:

Gerber Legendary Blades is a market leading brand in knives, multi-tools, lighting, and essential gear for the outdoor enthusiast. We have an immediate need for a Business Development Manager at our Portland, Oregon office.


POSITION PURPOSE

Responsible for building and developing business opportunities with a focus on Business to Business sales and new channels of business. Participates in all aspects of the sales and business development cycle. Identifies and pursues sales opportunities, makes client presentations, prospects new business relationships, and obtains client contracts. Coordinates closely with other departments to ensure that products and services are delivered within scheduled deadlines. Projects and maintains the Company’s professional image. Keeps Management aware of area activities and significant problems.

Duties:


1. Assumes responsibility for developing new retail channel opportunities with potential clients.

a. Identifies and prospects new clients through cold calling, networking, and professional contacts with a focus on Business to Business sales along with other new channels of business.
b. Maintains a current knowledge of industry trends, opportunities, channels, products, and competitors to support the identification of business development opportunities.
c. Builds and maintains professional relationships with potential clients.
d. Utilizes aspects and elements of the sales process to secure contracts with new clients. Presents and explains the benefits of Company products and services.
e. Initiates and closes only those sales opportunities which profitably balance client expectations with specific benefits of Company deliverables.

2. Assumes responsibility for effectively developing new revenue opportunities with new clients.
a. Maintains indepth knowledge of client operations, systems, products, and needs.
b. Researches and develops new clients and sales channels.
c. Conducts sales presentations on assigned products and services. Utilizes all aspects of the sales process to secure expanded contracts.
d. Writes proposals and negotiates pricing of services and contracts with clients.
e. Ensures that all sales and business development interactions are professional, effective, and mutually beneficial to both the client and the Company.


3. Assumes responsibility for ensuring professional customer relations with all clients.
a. Ensures that customers are provided full advocacy and support through all stages of the business relationship.
b. Ensures that products and services are delivered within established timeframes. Works to exceed client expectations.
c. Ensures that clients are well informed through continual feedback and communication.
d. Promotes goodwill and a positive image of the Company.

4. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with Company personnel and Senior Management.
a. Works closely with Channel Management, Finance, and other departments to ensure well coordinated operations.
b. Acts as a resource and support to other Business Development team members.
c. Obtains and conveys information as needed.
d. Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant concerns.
e. Attends and participates in meetings as assigned.
f. Completes records, reports, and documents as required.

5. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
a. Stays informed of industry, market, and product trends.
b. Attends professional meetings and trade seminars.
c. Completes special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of retail and direct distribution channels, target marketing, and promotions strategies. Knowledge of the competitive environment and industry issues.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Four or more years of related business development and sales experience.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Strong customer service skills. Good presentation and writing abilities. Solid oral and written communications skills. Works well on a team. Able to use all related hardware and software.
