GENERAL SUMMARY The Head End Installation and Maintenance Technician II will be responsible for providing installation, turn up, Tier 1, Tier 2, and assist in Tier 3 maintenance of our head end electronics for Single Family, MDU, High Rise and Resort deployments. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Head End Build Out - Work as a member of the deployment team to build out FTTH, HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coax), and coaxial telecommunication systems
- Assist with installation, configuration, and deployment of Motorola AXS2200, Tellabs Ultramax, and other FTTH Telco equipment
- Provide deployment and operational support to other functions and in other areas including Data configuration and maintenance, Video deployment and maintenance, and ONT configuration and maintenance, and cross training
- Accomplish installation of ladder rack, relay racks, rack mounted electronic equipment, satellite mounts and dishes, and small antenna towers
- Assist with any other tasks as needed such as equipment pickup and delivery, head end clean up, assist Fiber Maintenance with ONT installation, and conduit installation
- Contribute to the development and documentation of the processes and tools needed to complete assigned work Tier 1 - First Response Service Orders and Head End Clean-Up
- Head End Clean Up - Sweep, Vacuum, Hot Mop - Automatically Generated Service Order
- Verify AC working properly - Change Air Filters in AC - Automatically Generated Service Order
- Dust Equipment and Clean/Change filters on equipment as necessary
- Power Cycle Equipment as needed
- Verify Channel Lineup is Correct
- Verify Lights on Equipment are functioning properly - Visual inspection of equipment
- Fix Wiring Issues in IDF with Cat 5, 110 or 66 block punch downs, etc.
- Correct Channel Problems - Locked Up Receiver, Duplicate Channels, Receiver on wrong Channel
- Able to perform Tier 1 Service Orders and Preventative Maintenance in estimated completion times
- Continuous Training to become certified as a Tier 2 Technician
Tier 2 - Administrative Maintenance - Provide support for our contractual agreement for up to 2 analog channel changes per year - coordinate changes
- Maintain accurate Qam lineup - keep up with Echostar changes and additions to HD availability
- Build and Submit requisition for equipment as needed
- Keep updated battery replacement schedule for UPS batteries
- Receive new equipment and RMA bad material - Ship equipment as needed *
- Keep spare inventory current at head ends and regional head ends
- Provide ROM (Regional Operation Manager) support - Answer Technical Questions for Sales Staff
- Provide training as needed to Tier 1 Fiber Maintenance technicians
- Contribute to the development and documentation of the processes and tools needed to complete assigned work. Tier 2 - Service Orders and Preventative Maintenance
- Adjust and Maintain Satellites
- Replace bad video equipment - Receivers, Modulators, Multiswitches, Power Inserters
- Troubleshoot and replace connectors or wiring that goes bad
- Provide on site support for Phone and Data at Service Provider's request for Maintenance or Site Outage
- Make Adjustment to Qam system as needed to keep system current
- Troubleshoot Data and Phone switches in IDF's - MDU to resolve customer or site outages
- Replace UPS Batteries in accordance with battery maintenance schedule or to correct outage
- Replace CATV tap face plates and splice hard line Coax as needed to correct customer or site outage
Tier 3 - Service Orders and Preventative Maintenance - Work with Sr. Engineers to analyze and correct signal interference issues with off air HD channels
- Work with Sr. Engineers to analyze and correct signal interference issues with satellites
- Work with Sr. Engineers to resolve picture quality issues in head end - Second order distortions, composite triple beat
- Adjust, balance, sweep signal levels in head end - at least once per quarter
- Adjust, balance, sweep return path signals in plant - at least once per quarter
- Maintain fiber signal levels in IDF's for Foxcom deployments - at least once per quarter
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Ability to read and understand CAS design plans
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
- Working knowledge and experience working with Wavetek/Acterna diagnostic equipment
- Requires certification as Capitol Infrastructure Video Tier 1 and Tier 2 technician within 90 days of hire date for installation & maintenance activities
- Additional training and certifications a plus
- Minimum 5 years experience in the build out and operations of CATV, SMATV, and Data infrastructures and a working knowledge and understanding of CATV theory, troubleshooting skills, and proper cable handling procedures
- Minimum 5 years experience in proper installation techniques of hard line coax cable.
- Knowledge and understanding of installation and maintenance of L-Band Satellites
- Minimum 2 years experience in providing support of CATV plant, head ends, and fiber optic nodes
- Minimum 2 years Field experience with operation of, Wavetek/Acterna Stealth CATV meters
- Minimum 2 years Field experience with operation of satellite signal levels, BER, and IRD.
- Minimum 2 year Field experience in the installation and troubleshooting of LAN based Data and telephony networks.
SPECIAL FEATURES - Position will require 85-95% travel
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Lifting, Bending, Climbing Ladders, Digging, climbing in attics to run cable, and general manual labor will be part of the daily routing.
- Must be able to lift at least 50lbs. continually throughout the work day.
