• Assists in managing the University’s judicial system
• Investigates, evaluates and counsels students on disciplinary issues
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
Experience and Training
• Minimum 3 years increasingly responsible housing/residential life experience, including demonstrated experience with program development and implementation
• Experience with college or university residential communities preferred; law enforcement background considered.
Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
• Excellent written and oral communications skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state laws and/or residential life disciplinary standards and procedures
• Ability to converse diplomatically with students and parents regarding sensitive matters involving judicial sanctions and penalties
• Knowledge of and ability to use crisis intervention skills when on call
• Ability to take 24 hour/day on-call (pager) emergency duty
• Knowledge of and ability to respond to students and parents regarding Guide to Campus Life policies and standards
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Administers the judicial system, including review of incident reports and formal complaints; will adjudicate infractions and impose appropriate sanctions.
• Conducts investigations of reported non-academic student violations, including interviewing relevant parties and gathering incident reports and other evidence
• Co-directs and advises the Director of Judicial Affairs regarding the formal non-academic hearings and meetings, determines and issues appropriate sanctions in conjunction with the student judicial board
• Provides directives and adjudication for all non-academic disciplinary matters occurring within all university residential communities; serves as the staff liaison for Traffic Court proceedings.
• Provides counseling for students, particularly residential students, related to disciplinary issues; provides referrals to appropriate university departments, such as Director of Judicial Affairs, Counseling, Health Services, Academic Services, Academic Advisors and the Vice President of Student Life
• Responds to requests and questions regarding judicial processes for students and parents and others as appropriate
• In conjunction with the Director of Judicial Affairs, is responsible for parental notification program for students who have been found in violation of the University’s policies regarding alcohol and other substances
• Co-manages training sessions and presentations and serves as a resource on an ongoing basis with regard to appropriate disciplinary policies and procedures
• In conjunction with the Director of Judicial Affairs, performs training for Resident Directors and Resident Assistants on incident handling and preparation of incident reports
• Co-manager of the analysis of judicial statistics via incident tracking system
• Conducts and evaluates daily reviews of all resident students with multiple discipline violations and make appropriate referrals to the Director of Judicial Affairs
• Provides on-call assistance with a rotational week night and weekend duty for residential crisis response and support to on-call Resident Director
• Maintains positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating effectively with students, students’ parents, faculty, co-workers and managers
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Judicial Affairs or Vice President for Student Life
ACCOUNTABILITY:
• Complete discretion to determine fines and punishments (up to dismissal from the University) for non-academic violations
