Description: | This position serves as Director for Fund Development and will support all divisions of Nonprofits First with responsibility for directing the agency’s overall fund development strategy as well as provide guidance through education and consulting to the community agencies we serve.
The Fund Development Director will be responsible for achieving Nonprofits First’s fundraising goals and engaging sponsors in ongoing service activities including leveraging key relationships to ensure meeting revenue goals. The Director plans, directs, and coordinates all Development activities, major fundraising activities, should they be undertaken, and special projects. The Director will maintain and expand funding from private and corporate foundations, as well as develop new sources of income from individuals, events, and governmental grants, among others.
| Duties: | Develop annual fund development goals for the agency in collaboration with the agency management team and grants coordinator in alignment with Nonprofit First’s strategic objectives.
Develop a case statement for Nonprofits First which will enable us to promote the benefit of our services to both our clients and potential funders.
Create messaging that promotes capacity building and certification as an appealing cause for funders
Establish a strong corporate and foundation relations program for the purpose of attracting resources and talent to support the programs of Nonprofits First.
Cultivate and steward relationships with current and potential corporate and foundation sponsors and individual donors.
Maintain a sufficient pipeline to meet revenue targets.
Execute a formalized fund development program following Fundraising the Smartway®.
Develop and deliver ongoing education and consulting to Nonprofits First clients in overall fund development planning and implementation, e.g., the Fund Development Academy in conjunction with the Education team.
Collaborate with management team on the design and implementation of a public fundraising event such as a conference, symposium, nonprofit fair, etc.
Align programs to support Agency Certification and the Management Support Services to maximize nonprofits’ access to Nonprofits First capacity-building services.
Oversee fund development information and resources on the website
Prepare monthly reports as required by CEO.
Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations.
Serve as public advocate for the nonprofit sector.
Develop and recommend department operating budget and ensure that the department operates within budget.
Communicate with CEO and Board on department activity and propose action when necessary.
| Qualifications: | Proven track record of achieving revenue targets and/or a quota of over $1M annually.
Familiarity with all major categories of development, including grants, corporate relations and individual philanthropy.
At least four years of nonprofit fundraising/development experience, preferably with significant foundation and high donor fundraising experience.
Bachelor’s degree supplemented by five years of development or related experience with ability to work effectively with diverse nonprofit organizations (master’s preferred, but can be waived given level of experience and expertise).
Ability to work with all levels of management within all community stakeholder groups including foundations, nonprofit business of all sizes and life cycle stages, consultants, trainers and other service providers, product vendors, etc.
Entrepreneurial, dynamic, creative, detail-oriented, self-directed and organized, able to perform independently within a fast-paced, cross-functional team.
Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office Suite products such as Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint, the Internet, and database applications especially gift records systems and fund development research databases.
Proven management and leadership capabilities with demonstrated ability to think strategically with a thorough understanding of strategic development.
Experience working with Senior Level executives in a corporate environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially public speaking, and group facilitation with demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively.
Special Requirements and Physical Demands:
Position requires occasional travel in the local area. Must have a reliable vehicle, and requires maintaining a valid Florida State drivers’ license with a satisfactory driving record and eligibility for coverage under any applicable agency insurance
Ability and willingness to participate in ongoing professional development activities in order to keep current on new developments in the field and to enhance skills already maintained
Requires safely lifting or moving up to 25 lbs on an occasional basis, for example movement of materials or texts
