PURPOSE OF POSITION: By operating the electromyography equipment according to established protocols and documenting appropriately, the Electromyography Technician serves the patient, physician and other staff members.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Clinic Manager
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Frequent walking, sitting, bending, and standing required for extended periods of time. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds. Requires visual acuity and normal color perception. Corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires exposure to communicable diseases and fluids common to a clinic environment.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

Duties: |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (This may not include all of the duties assigned).
1. Operate electromyography equipment to test the electrical activity of muscle disease or denervation to determine the conduction of velocity and latency times of peripheral motor and sensory nerves and to assist physician in performing the more advanced electromyography techniques utilized in specific neurological diseases.
2. Confer with patients to obtain medical history information.
3. Explains procedures to assure cooperation and optimum test results.
4. Prepare patients for electromyography procedure; apply electrodes to proper position on the body.
5. Compute and record graphic data in accordance with established procedures; analyze and calculate results of tests and prepare preliminary report of findings.
6. Calibrate and clean equipment in accordance with standardized procedures.
7. Perform other related duties

9. Participates in staff development and educational activities.
10. Maintains patient confidentiality.
11. Attends staff meetings as required.
12. Maintains strictest confidentiality.
13. Ongoing Customer Service Training.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: |
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Experience in direct patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in maintaining records and recording test results. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Ability to follow written protocols. Ability to communicate clearly.
Education: Equivalent of a high school diploma.
Experience: Minimum of one year experience in a direct patient care situation.
