Blair-Caldwell African American Research Branch Library2401 Welton St.
Status/Schedule: Regular, part-time, 20 per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the Library and may include evening and weekend hours.

Duties: |
| Duties and Responsibilities: Provides customer service through performance of both Circulation Clerk and Security Officer responsibilities. Creates positive experiences for library customers by checking out and returning books and other library materials, registering customers for library cards, placing holds and ordering books and other library materials from other agencies, correcting database holdings and other varied clerical duties. Checks entire building and secures points of entry, exits and interior areas at opening/closing; enforces customer and staff compliance with general safety/security rules and regulations; investigates theft and disturbances on library property. This branch is dedicated to children, family and schools in a diverse urban neighborhood. May also work at other locations within the system as requested. |
Qualifications: |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of office practices and procedures. Knowledge of safety hazards. Skill in operating a computer. Skill in enforcing customer and staff compliance with security rules and regulations and documenting and resolving conflicts. Skill in securing buildings with several points of entry. Skill in working with attention to detail. Skill in interpreting, communicating and presenting information. Ability to make simple mathematical computations. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community. Ability to creatively problem solve, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to lift 20 to 50 lbs. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Spanish language skills preferred.
Experience: One year of experience working with security and safety issues including experience providing customer service and solving service problems.
Special Requirements: Requires ability to obtain a Merchant Business Guard License issued by City/County of Denver. A physical examination and background check must be passed after the offer to hire has been made. Must have a current Colorado driver’s license with a good driving record.
Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
